Rebecca Newman, Esq.

Rebecca (Becky) Newman serves as Of Counsel at For Purpose Law Group, where she focuses on helping nonprofit organizations navigate the often-complex landscape of employment law and internal governance. With a background that bridges both private practice and public interest law, Becky brings nuanced, strategic counsel to nonprofit leaders managing workforce-related risks, compliance, and operations.

Becky advises clients on a wide range of employment issues, including wage and hour compliance, employee classification, workplace investigations, hiring and termination policies, and staff and volunteer handbooks. She is especially passionate about helping values-driven organizations build fair, legally sound workplaces that reflect their mission and culture.

Earlier in her career, Becky practiced California and federal labor and employment law in private practice, and later served as an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps attorney with Public Counsel. There, she provided pro bono legal services to nonprofit organizations and low-income workers—work that cemented her dedication to service and equity.

Beyond employment matters, Becky offers seasoned guidance on nonprofit governance, including board responsibilities, conflict of interest policies, and charitable compliance. Her time as a Senior Program Officer at The Rose Hills Foundation gave her a funder’s perspective on nonprofit operations, making her particularly adept at helping clients align legal best practices with funder expectations and public trust.

Outside of her legal practice, Becky has served on local governance boards and enjoys staying connected to her community through service, travel, and storytelling. She’s conversational in Spanish and always looking for new ways to help mission-driven organizations lead with integrity and impact.
