Firm Background
Established in early 2012, FPLG began primarily as an effort to address a huge, unmet need for experienced, proactive legal counsel within the nonprofit sector. Over the past decade, FPLG’s reputation has grown, with the firm now recognized as the “go to” legal resource for nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and charitably inclined families.
Our Firm Milestones
For Purpose Law Group began when three graduates of the Nonprofit Leadership & Management Masters program at the University of San Diego joined together to provide legal, strategic and operational expertise to nonprofit organizations throughout San Diego county.
Once FPLG added a third attorney to our team, we moved offices to South Park, San Diego. True to our core values, we chose a warm, Spanish bungalow built in 1922 to house our team and to welcome our clients.
In the spring of 2019, FPLG expanded operations to Wyoming where most of the firm's administrative and business functions are housed.
In order to better serve our clients, FPLG added a litigation practice group. Paired with the expertise of our transactional practice groups, our attorneys have a deep understanding of the complex statutory framework of nonprofit organizations, which a traditional litigator may not understand.
As we expanded, we needed more space! In November of 2019, we moved to a large, beautiful Tudor office, two-blocks from Balboa Park, the central and cultural heart of San Diego. Again, we thoughtfully chose our offices to reflect our core values based on teamwork and community.
To better live, pursue and demonstrate our “purpose,” FPLG formed the For Purpose Foundation, a charity with a mission to provide educational support and scholarships to first generation native students, as well as offer fiscal sponsorship to aligned organizations in need.
In April of 2022, FPLG celebrated a decade of serving inspired entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders and philanthropists! After celebrating with our clients, colleagues, and family, our dedicated and growing team enjoyed a relaxing and fun retreat at Paradise Point Resort.

Corporate Social Responsibility
FPLG doesn’t exist in a vacuum; we recognize that the firm is part of an interrelated system of people, culture, values and organizations. As such, FPLG consistently strives to make decisions based on enhancing and contributing to the well-being of our employees, our clients, and our communities. In 2021, FPLG established the For Purpose Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide scholarships and other educational support for native, first nation students.
Community Involvement
As part of our corporate social responsibility, we welcome opportunities to volunteer our time, contribute our expertise, and demonstrate our support. Each year, the firm participates in various fundraising endeavors on behalf of our clients, including running in 5Ks, sponsoring lemonade stands, or contributing financially to the causes our employees believe in.
