Geena Yu, Esq., LL.M.

Senior Counsel | Nonprofit Attorney

As Senior Counsel at For Purpose Law Group, Geena Yu draws on deep experience in nonprofit, tax, and corporate law to guide mission-driven organizations at every stage of their journey—from formation and growth to complex charitable transactions and beyond. Her practice focuses on advising a wide range of exempt organizations, including private foundations, public charities, supporting organizations, social welfare organizations, and business leagues.

Geena brings a strategic, client-centered approach to nonprofit operational and governance matters. She regularly advises on grantmaking, conflict of interest issues, unrelated business income tax, property tax exemptions, employment law, and intellectual property considerations. She also has extensive experience supporting high-net-worth individuals with charitable giving strategies, including the creation of charitable entities, drafting charitable trust agreements, and facilitating the donation of complex assets.

Before joining FPLG, Geena served tax-exempt organizations at a large San Francisco-based law firm, following prior roles as a Senior Associate at KPMG LLP, where she advised private equity and corporate clients on tax-efficient structures for buy-side transactions. She also held Vice President roles at MUFG Union Bank, focusing on global trust services and contract negotiation. Throughout her career, Geena has remained committed to service, including providing pro bono legal assistance to low-income taxpayers through the Justice and Diversity Center’s Low Income Taxpayer Clinic.

With a background that bridges nonprofit law, complex transactions, and high-impact philanthropy, Geena offers clients a uniquely broad and strategic perspective to help them achieve their goals with confidence.
