Sarah Gersten is an experienced nonprofit attorney and general counsel who has spent her professional career helping mission-driven organizations thrive. She brings a unique blend of legal expertise and nonprofit leadership, with deep experience in governance, compliance, and policy strategy.

Sarah is the co-founder and was the inaugural Executive Director and General Counsel of the Last Prisoner Project, a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing criminal justice reform. In that role, she built the organization from the ground up—designing its infrastructure, overseeing governance and compliance, managing a multimillion-dollar budget, and leading both policy initiatives and programmatic growth. She regularly trained boards and leadership teams on compliance with IRS rules, political activity, and lobbying regulations, ensuring that the organization remained effective, compliant, and sustainable.

In addition, Sarah co-founded the Pickleball for Incarcerated Communities League, which has brought health and wellness programming to more than 50 correctional facilities across the country. This innovative initiative reflects her commitment to creating opportunities for dignity, connection, and healing in underserved communities.

At FPLG, Sarah draws on her broad legal and executive experience to serve as a trusted advisor to nonprofit leaders and boards, helping them navigate complex legal requirements with confidence and clarity. She is passionate about strengthening organizations so they can remain focused on their mission and create lasting impact.
